100th post and a change

I know I have been a bit quiet on the cooking front lately, but, I have reached my 100th post and am sorry to say that I am going to be making a change - one which I am not happy to make.

When I started this blog, I never imagined that I would have so many readers subscribing through an RSS reader. I also had no idea that my posts would be stolen (by scrapers) and republished in full elsewhere on the web - without my knowledge and with no credit or links back to this blog.

I don't see why someone else should benefit and earn money from the work I do on here. For this reason, I am going to have to switch to short feed. I don't want to, but I haven't got any alternative. :-(

Thank you to those who have emailed me in the past, and asked to use my photos and have provided a link back to the original post. That is all I ask for.

I'd also like to thank my subscribers, and hope that you will continue to read Cherrapeño. It's just one click from your RSS reader to the actual post, I hope you think it's worth it!

Of course it is worth it! I hate when people do that!

Definitely it's worth one more click! No big deal to click once more, but having all your content stolen and reposted elsewhere *is* a big deal. Good for you for being pro-active about it!

I click through to the full blog all the time. If it protects you, it's worth it.

Pardon my ignorance... what is a short feed?
And you sound pretty down girl! :(

Congrats on your 100th post Nic!
That is so bad when people do that and very sad of them if they can't come up with stuff of their own.

don t worry I ll follow you for sure :)

I don't understand any of this, and have no idea of how to go about it. Does this mean that when I click on your page I won't be able to see your posts? I don't even know how to find out if someone is using my own stuff. You just have to do what you have to do Nic. Good luck on it.

Congratulations on reaching the 100th post. Time flies quickly from here on - I'm publishing #346 this morning.

Personally I don't much care about pathetic little people who copy my ideas, although I'd probably change my view if I thought they were making any serious money out of it. I often ask permission to use other people's material (usually photos) and I've only ever been refused once.

Onwards to 200!

Thank you all for your positive comments!
Ginny - thank you, I do too.

Kalyn - thanks for your help and advice on this, I appreciate it!

Muralimanohar - I'm glad you don't mind that little extra click, thank you so much!

Anudivya - it will only affect you if you subscribe to posts in a reader or somthing similar, short feet means you just get to see the first few lines of the post and then you would click on the link to read the whole post!

Jan - thank you, I agree - it's very sad.

Snooky Doodle - thank you, that means a lot to me!

Marie - you can still read the posts, it will only make a difference if you subscribe in a reader, you will then just click on the link to go to this page. People can still copy stuff, but it's a bit more time consuming and the 'scrapers' that automatically get the posts will now only get the first few lines.

Trig - thank you! #346? - that's some writing talent you have there, along with the cooking!
People will still copy ideas, photos and posts, but this just makes it a little harder for them.

It's really worth it, Nicole. And you know what, although I subscribe to many blogs, I always go to the main blog.Keep up your good work...I will always make that click :-)

I don't quite understand what this means - I'm all for plaigarism protection measures, but I read your blog in an RSS feeder and I'm wondering what a "short" version entails. Will there be any sort of description of the recipe or what the post is about that I can see before clicking? I love your blog, but I have a very full reader and so I try not to click on posts (meat, say) that I'm not going to be reading anyway.

I suppose in some way it's a bit of a compliment but still rather annoying. I totally get where you're coming from and don't blame you.

Sam said...

I'll keep reading! it's just shame that you have to do this, I totally understand though.

Megan said...

I'll click through! Your definitly worth it! Congrats on the 100th post. :)

congratulations! blogging is a wonderful thing and I hope to read more of you in years to come!

Nic said...

Sunita - thank you, that's so good to hear!

Valli - thank you so much!

Judith - I think it depends on your RSS feeder, but it will probably just show the first paragraph. You would then click on the link if you wanted to read more. I nearly always put the recipe in the title of the post, or have a title that indicates what is in the main post. Having vegetarians in my house, it's highly unlikely that I will suddenly do loads of posts on meat, lol! There are 75 recipes so far (or links to recipes) and I think that only 3 of these are for meat/fish.
So please carry on clicking!! ;-)

Giz - yeah - someone loves me!!

Sam, I agree and thank you!

Megan - oh thank you, you are so sweet!

thepassionatecook - thank you, and yes, blogging is wonderful!

Nic - I had my content stolen and very niavely couldn't understand why. Another food blogger said it was for advertising revenue. I actually saw the stuff on screen!!
So sorry this has happened to you as well.
Congrats on the 100th post.

i must confess that i've taken a few people off my reader when they change to short feeds, but yours is most definitely staying around. :)

Well done on your 100th post! And I have a quick question about the scrapers - how did you know they were stealing your content? I often worry that my unauthorised content is in all sorts of places I don't know about...

LyB said...

Congrats on your 100th post Nic! I'll always click on over, it's like a little visit to a friend. :)

Nic said...

Margaret - so to hear that this has happened to you to, to think that they are making money from our hard work, it's a bloody cheek!

Grace - thanks, I love you!

Jennywenny - I am so glad to hear that you will be back - thank you!!

Rosie - thank you very much!

Cynthia - thanks my friend.

Congratulations on your hundredth! I have a few tricks to make scrapers work for me but I'm not sure if it's doable in Blogger (I use WP).
Looking forward to your next hundred :)

I stumbled on your blog through a Livejournal friend who mentioned how Pat Sloan ( a quilter and Blogger) had mentioned your snowmen cookies. My LJ friend left a link and I came looking. Lots of your recipes have me wanting to rush to the kitchen and start baking! (Get to the point!) I'm sorry to hear the problems you've had, and although I've just added your blog as an rss feed to my Livejournal, I shall always credit you and link back when I post my results from using one of your recipes. I think it sucks when people claim work that isn't theirs.
