At the moment, I am making bagels at least 2 or 3 times a week. I do tend to cheat and use the bread machine to knead the dough, but then I probably wouldn't make them that often if I didn't.
A few days ago, one of my boys wanted some mini bagels, but when they kept getting lost at the bottom of the toaster, I decided to turn them into bagel chips.
Some of the bagels were sliced from the top down and some were sliced horizontally, and the latter do look better - although they both taste the same. Simply brush with olive oil and sprinkle with herbs/spices/Parmesan cheese, before baking.

Sliced horizontally
Mini Bagel Chips
Half a dozen mini bagels, thinly sliced
Olive oil
Dried herbs of your choice, I used Italian seasoning flakes
Spices of your choice, I used paprika
Parmesan, finely grated
Salt and pepper to taste
Heat the oven to 180ºC.
Thinly slice the bagels and place on a baking sheet in a single layer.
Brush each slice with a little olive oil.
Sprinkle with your choice of seasonings and bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes until golden and crisp.
These are also good served with a dip.

Cut on the vertical - not so good looking!

This is my entry into this month's Waiter, There's Something In My.... being hosted by Johanna of The Passionate Cook. The theme is picnic fare, and although it's easy just to throw in a couple of bags of crisps (chips) for the kids, these are a little different and very moreish!

Oh I do love bagel chips. I've never thought to make them myself, but it does make a lot of sense. It's easy enough and the amount of seasoning can be controlled. My favorite is cinnamon and sugar, but I try not to indulge too too often...
You make bagels 3 times a week? Nic, I'm coming over. Seriously, I love these. Anything as wonderful & savoury as this is right up my street. I'll even clean the toaster for you!
you're a bagel-making arteeeest, nic! i'm with cookinpanda--i'll take some cinnamon sugar bagel chips any day. most impressive. :)
I love bagels and cream cheese, on of my favorite breakfast or snack foods.
What a great idea Nic - bagel chips are so good and I just never even thought of making them myself. I feel motivated now and to be able to create whatever flavours I want - where have I been??? under a rock???
These bagel chips look spectacular! Knowing myself, I will probably just sit down and won't stop eating them until they're all gone.
They look lovely Nic! I've never made bagels, I will have to give them a go.
What an excellent idea! They look delicious.
I haven't had bagels in ages but I am sure that my kids would love those. These bagel chips look so tasty.
OMG, you are a bagel-making machine!! Three times a week is very impressive :) I adore bagel chips - can I please come to your picnic??
Nic, I salute you! I have never even attempted bagels, much less mini ones! I love bagel chips! Much love, Raquel XO
Bagel Chips sounds awesome, but I guess I would have to learn how to master the art of the bagel. Since, I am spoiled in NYC with good bagels, I think I can just pass the bagel making step and head right to the chip.
What a great idea. I can't believe you make your own bagels. Impressive!
Homemade bagels ooooh I want to live nextdoor to you and pop around for sugar *i mean bagels* They look amazing Nic - love the idea of bagel chips :)

Bagel dough can be pretty hard to knead.. Completely understandable if you ask . Nice flavoring ideas for the chips.

Nice idea and gorgeous, gorgeous bagels. I never did get nto using my breadmaker, maybe I need to get it out of the cupboard!
What a cool idea, very resourceful :) They sound like giant croutons, and I flipping love croutons!
3 times a week, wow! I've been intending on trying but all that boiling and baking just seems so intimidating. I'm going to trawl through your archives now for your recipe. Thanks!
