Boqueria Market, Barcelona

Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the famous Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona's oldest and largest covered food market. The smells and sights of the fresh produce are amazing and this is where many of Barcelona's top chefs can be found, looking for the freshest ingredients for their restaurants.

Here are a few photographs of the produce, starting with the fabulous mushroom stall and ending with the dried fruits, nuts and sweets.

Barcelona is wonderful to eat well. And La Boquería is an awesome display of the variety and quality of the food in Spain. It even has a vegetarian food stand amongst it all. We had the best berry salad there. Loved it and yearning to go back.

That looks like a fabulous market. There's so much there, it must have been hard to take it all in. Perhaps some day I will have a chance to see it in person. One can always hope!

Karma-Free - thanks for visiting my blog! I don't remember seeing a vegetarian food stand - darn, I'll just have to go back!

Marie and Margaret - it is one of the best I have ever been to and the atmosphere is amazing.

Hi Susan - there are so many blogs out there, so little time...!
Thanks for the lovely comments and the great thing is that I now have your blog to visit too!

Catherine - thanks so much.

Oh I love the Boqueria! Wonder where my photos are - the ones I never got round to editing or posting!!? I was amazed at the variety of ready to eat/drink fruit on sale, and the amazing selection of obscure tropical fruits. But my favourite thing remains the charcuterie stalls with all those hams hanging from them. Absolutely mouth-watering!

Hi Nic,

I was in Barcelona a couple years back and the Boqueria was one of the highlights of the trip! I was thrilled to see your photos. If you visit my blog you may see a familiar site on my title page. I recognized the market even before I read your entry. Wish I had been there too!!

M&M's - I wish that market was on my doorstep, but I'd spend a fortune!
Jeanne - I'd really love to see your photos - please post them!
Patrick - I love the header on your blog, really sums up the market! We should have a blogging convention in Barcelona - wouldn't that be fun?
